Rapid Rig: Modular 2 vs 3 Axes

One of the questions that comes up most often with Rapid Rig: Modular 3 compared to its predecessors is "what gives with the control directions?!"

The keen observer will have noticed that the Z axis is now sideways instead of forward. This change allows for both mirrored rotation AND translation in local space. A feature that most rigs lack. Z is also the twist axis for the controls, instead of the usual X axis.

While this may seem like not that big of a deal, being able to have this on a face is crucial. Imagine animating a face where you rotate both eyebrows to make angry eyes, but then when you translate the eyebrows, one goes up and once goes down. This would be really frustrating for an animator.

It is also nice when adding FK chains where you can translate and rotate mirrored chains, and they behave exactly the same.

Also in the video is a demonstration of the mirrored IK controls This works for elbows, knees, wrists, and feet.
